Contrary to the AC voltage provided by the grid, LED lights operate on DC voltages. Therefore, most general and ambient lights that do not come with an internal driver need an external device, like this 12-watt Meanwell driver. It is suitable for 100-240V AC supplies and will provide a constant output of 24-volts or 0-5A. The driver will come in handy while trying to operate LED strip lights, rope lights, ambient lights, among others that do not come with an internal driver. Make sure not to use this driver with lights that operate on currents of over or under 24-volts. Most general and ambient lighting LED fixtures are constant-voltage devices. Meaning that providing too high voltage can burn-out an LED light, and if the voltage is too low, the light won’t turn on. Therefore, when buying this Driver, make sure to check the input voltage ratings on the LED lighting fixture in consideration.
